I've been browsing on-line more than three hours nowadays, but I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It's lovely worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the web will likely be much more useful than ever before.

I don't think such radical changes are necessary at all. All the result-orientedness etc. are all not very central points to test cricket's decline in popularity. Don't forget that this is the decade that has produced the highest percentage of results.

The biggest factor in enjoyment of test cricket is the contest of bat vs ball. A fast bowler steaming in and a batsman willing and capable of defending & attacking according the merit of the ball. The schedules and pitches are too fast bowler un-friendly and that is the thing that needs to be addressed first.

Fidel Edwards, Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor ..all fully fit, running in to bowl against Dravid, Tendulkar, Sehwag and Laxman in Bridgetown can still be a compelling contest. If that doesn't draw enough eyes, nothing ever will... Coloured clothing, split innings, two balls, Day night tests etc etc are only peripheral matters...

The article is suggesting some radical changes in every segment of the game. This article should not only be sent to ICC, but even sent to Cricket Magazine published where may be, some cricket bodies like ACB, ECB and South African boards and possibly BCCI, although the last one how much it will chew is anyone's guess. Can I also suggest that there is a contact person's name figures somewhere in case someone wants to pursue it further .....

This article comprehensive & wonderful. Pls forward to ICC? A combination of your suggestions like day-night, 4-day-test, 2-balls, 3-tiers, test-championships, etc all wonderful for test cricket. Many people talk about saving cricket but nothing comprehensive as what you have done. Hats off to you all.

I have a problem with the run penalty for slow overrates. Imagine this situation: Fielding team sets a target of 200 runs in 40 overs on the last day. The batting team can then slow the overrate by doing some "gardening" and all those shenanigans, such that only 35 overs are bowled. Then, for the remaining 5 overs, they get penalty runs (at twice their runrate!), which might win them the bloody match, without scoring 200 runs off the bat!
