uthappa must be promoted to grade b.bcci should concentrate on performance while making the contract oter than big names.despite of his brilliant performances in last ipl and ranji he is still rated as grade d.in my opinion he is much better player than any of the player listed in grade b.

I was going to add…

I actully think that the contract list looks quite good.

Grade-a has a Test flavour to it. You’d expect the 9 players on that list to play most tests that india plays in. Apart from the presence of Nehra in it, I think Grade-B points to the future. While I think it is right that Nehra got a contract I have no idea how he jumped straight into B!

Grade B has 7 contracts.

Of the 8 contracts in Grade C, like Srikanth Mangal, I can’t fathom Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik (promotion) although I think the BCCI got it right by demoting Chawla.

We then have the 17 jobs-for-the-boys list of grade-D players. What really matters is the list of 24 players in A, B, and C. So the D-list is just a mast list for fun…

I think you mean Pandey and not Pandot, right?

Again, I don’t think we should let T20 performance dominate or persuade thinking when it comes to central contracts. T20 players have adequate avenues for revenue generation! A central contract is a mechanism for the Board to say to a player “you are on our vision” for a national call-up.

So from that point of view, unless Pandey lights up the Ranji circuit, he has to bide his time!

What happened to Pandit? He hit a fast century last year in one of the T20 games, didn’t he? From whatever little I watched him play last year, he had great style and technique.

It is interesting to note that, Ishant Sharma, none of the Grade B players are in the test side and are unlikely to do so in the immediate future. Also, M. Vijay in Grade D is most likely to open for India in Mumbai next week while Grade C has two players with previous experience in that slot (Jaffer and Karthik). One wonders what the criteria is for placing these players into these categories.

It clearly is evident that the BCCI seems to place importance on IPL and T20 when it comes to establishing the list of contracted players especially on Grade D. How else would you explain the absence of Abhinav Mukund while folks like Wriddhiman Saha, Shikar Dhawan etc. find their way in.
