I do log off when these debates come on. Your points are valid on some of the batsmen. I am not saying whether they should or should not retire. In fact I do believe that a few of them should. But that is not the point. As I summed up at the end, you are going to get supporters for retirement and you are going to get people against it. The bottom line is, they are going to retire when they want. No great debate in any newspaper, on any tv channel is going to influence them.

Hence, discussing it a few times is fine and definitely required on such topics. However, discussing it every single time a match is played over a two year period, is obsessive, having nothing better to do and boring. I mean how many times can we talk about how tentative one player is, how injury prone the other is and then compare their averages over the last 15 tests to their career averages (I did it above to illustrate a point). Everyone knows the facts, lets just let it play out, let everyone agree to disagree. This debate is getting nowhere

Mr Gandhi,

If you do not like the continuation of debate over the retirement of the Fan4, you do have the option of logging off, turning the computer etc

Any increased average over the past 12 months have not reulted from or in match winning performances. Nor attractive cricket.
Dravid is chewing up more balls than he ever did--this allows the bowlers to get their line and length right and dominate
VVS has had more positions in the batting order than in kamasutra--he has more not outs now or to be the last man out--boosting his average and the team / country having no benefit at all. I suppose we are all waiting for the Second coming--another 281 with dravid as a partner

Dada is still attacking and attractive batsman--but a BIG lisbility on the field and distraction to young captain like Dhoni

sachin will run himself out or pull a hamstring after equalling or bettering Brian lara's total of runs

As said by Cristopher Poshin David, they should be given the opportunity to retire when they want. Look at the Australia now without a quality spinner. Warne should have retired after Australia finds a perfect replacement for him. India should find the replacement for the big five before asking the seniors to retire.

My thoughts exactly. Just leave them alone and even Kumble normally a quiet behind the scene type of charecter has come out said that all the talk about BCCI's retirement policy is all rubbish. Laxman, Dravid, Kumble, Ganguly, and Tendulkar though not in their prime, still hold together the Indian test team and continue to perform whenever the press claims its time for retirement. It's only time when thay say it's time and I really love your reference to Shane Warne and Mc.Grath who retired when they could have easily have continued, but now because of that Australia are struggling to win more test matches as the replacements aren't the orginal. Therefore if the big five leave who will replace them? and will they do the job half as good as the big five?
