Srikanth, but the problem is the selectors haven't given any indication that he is a test commodity and that they are preserving him for that. When members of the fab four do retire or are replaced, players like Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Suresh Raina etc will already be higher in the pecking order for a position in the test team, due to the fact that they have played international cricket and have been part of the team. The whole point of contention is that Badri deserves a fair chance...

BTW, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Manoj Tiwary ought to settle down in Vegas...that's how lucky they are!!

PS: Srikanth, did your first sentence intend to say players like Badri could move to Australia? I was trying to figure out what you meant there.

Srikanth,

IT is not about the the fab four or when he can get in. The guy is already 28 and he may be fearing he is losing the race. For what reason was Virat Kohli selected - no one knows! Seriously though, the selectors at the very least should have caleld the guy and told him something. Here's a guy who scored 700+ runs getting dismissed once last year and then continued to score heavily in all forms of the game and the selectors go ahead with unproven commodity like Rohit Sharma (the guy has not done much in FC cricket) or Virat Kohli, the day is not far when Badri will leave for ICL. IT happened with Sriram but at least you can say Sriram was given a chance in ODIs where he failed to convert (its a separate point as to whether SRiram should have been given a chance in the ODIs or tests). I can understand selection of Uthappa (top scorer two years back in domestic cricket), Tiwary (was good the previous year but a failure last year) but to ignore someone who has scored extensively in the last 4 yrs is a crime. Like he says, give him at least the chance to fail!

I hear Australia is still open to immigration and citizenship:-)

Jokes aside and with Irfan Pathan being a contentious candidate, the only chance Badrinath could have made it into this team was instead of Parthiv Patel. I don't think Badrinath should be crestfallen, the fab four are eventually going to move on to wiser things. He should focus more on getting into the test side where he stands a greater chance. He'd rather be betting in Vegas then hoping to get into the one day team.

It is very disheartening to read the player's anguish. All that blood, sweat and toil amount to nothing...

Well, in the Indian system, Badri won't be the first nor the last to befall such a fate!! The bandwagon will roll on...

There are numerous issues in the Indian cricket setup..foremost of which is accountability. There is absolutely none of that. On one side, you have Lalit Modi dreaming up new rules for IPL as though it's his private party (It does seem like that considering all the IPL related deals that his family owned company is snapping up). Soon, a cricketer might not get to play for India if he is even seen conversing with an ICL alumni!! On the other hand, you have the board trying to squeeze every little gap in the schedule by organizing more cricket thereby leading to player burnout and injuries. Does anyone seriously believe that the board is really interested in the welfare of the game or the players? In such a scenario, how can we expect the selectors to be accountable and responsive to queries? To be fair to them, they also live in the constant fear that the board will reprimand them if they divulge any details. The very setup of the board as a society (thereby not required to furnish or publish financial statements) and it's officers as honorary members is the starting point for non-accountability. The massive sums of money that is being generated by the board and the tax sops they get from the Indian government (due to special requests) just add to it. Since we all do have the habit of comparing our cricket with Australia, why not run the board as they do....like a company with a CEO and staff who are accountable for performance, player resources, finances, development of the game etc? Can somebody in the BCCI actually show a roadmap of where Indian cricket can be in the next 5 years with all the board activities supporting such an initiative? The Aussies can...

I've always believed that we really should not be criticizing the Indian team since they have performed well, not because, but despite the cricket board!! :-)

In a nutshell, cricket in India is run in an autocratic fashion...and we, the true fans of the game, are the ultimate losers!! It's a pity...

As long as they keep bringing SRT back into ODIs, there is no hope for youngsters like Badri. What a tragedy, SRT is going to take another 17 tests to break Lara's record at this rate and they bring him back for ODIs! He'll limp along till 2011 WC, by which time Badri would be past his prime.

Shankar,

That is a good one !!
Irfan is systematically taken to the cleaners by all good players - esp. in subcontinent conditions. But somehow, he has Dhoni's support. Irfan's selection shows the weight of Dhoni's influence on team selection.

Irfan may be effective in England conditions like Balwinder Sandhu or Roger Binny.
