One even toyed with that idea prior to the first test, but that would basically mean Irfan comes in for Yuvraj, for Sehwag is a straight exchange for Jaffer at the top. For an opening test it might have been a surprise weapon…even workable!

Now, either we defer this for the final test when there is little to lose, or hit back straightaway with slightly improved bowling power (hope Pathan has that incoming sidewinder all sorted out and ready) and with greater onus on our batsmen.

I’d like to imagine Kumble is such a lateral thinker.

‘Why not open with L Rajput–he opened in 2 tests–did well in the first with 60 plus and 30 plus–failed in the next and got dropped!

He has had ample time to look at the Aussie bowlers from the pavilion–best position to be for that!!!
