Thanks, Vish for pointing out that VRV is actually in the India A squad.

Chandan – I dont think Ishant is in the test squad. The bowling squad consists of Bose, RP Singh, Zaheer Khan, Sreesanth, Kumble and Powar. Adding Jaffar, Karthik, Gambhir, Dravid, Ganguly, Tendulkar, Laxman, Yuvraj and Dhoni to the team makes up 15.

India A tour is for the second XIV of the country. Is this our second XIV?? No way. We must keep our fringe players match fit so that they can be recalled to the national side even at the shortest notice, if need arises and be ready to play.

Who on earth here can replace whom in the senior side? Where are Sehwag, Tiwari, Munaf, Harbhajan and Raina? Why can’t they be played here?

My two cents -

Opening batsmen:
The omission of Akash Chopra is bewildering. He had a good domestic season and has kept himself busy in England during the off season. His experience, safe close-in-catching and dour defensive technique should have earned him another call. Looks like the selectors haven’t forgotten the disastrous home series against Australia where Chopra barely managed to get of the mark.

Fast bowling:
Well, if the selectors are convinced that easy (read cheap!) wickets will boost his confidence, then they have made a wise choice. In my book he should be in England playing against Sussex curving the ball back to the right hander. Munaf, like Sehwag is a much better player and a relegation to the A team is not for them.

Regarding Ishanth, I am happy that finally it has dawned to the selectors that height alone is not the only trait required by a fast bowler. The 18 year Ishanth needs to learn his trade in the domestic circuit at least for a couple of seasons.

You have mentioned that VRV has been excluded; I thought he was going on the tour along with the deserving Yo Mahesh.
