Given the recent comments on this blogsite on my original post on this topic, below is a fuller list of potential India-A players.
Openers:
Virender Sehwag, Aakash Chopra, Robin Uthappa, Shikar Dhawan
Middle-order bats:
Dinesh Mongia, Suresh Raina, Mohammed Kaif, S. Badrinath, Venugopala Rao, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli
Wicket Keepers:
Parthiv Patel, Puneet Bisht
Pace-bowlers:
Munaf Patel, Ajit Agarkar, V Yo Mahesh, Rakesh Patel, Ashish Nehra, Irfan Pathan, Joginder Sharma, V. R. V. Singh
Spinners:
Harbhajan Singh, Rajesh Pawar, Piyush Chawla, Murali Kartik, K. P. Appanna, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, Sayyed Iqbal Abdulla, Shahbaz Nadeem
Given this scenario, it is possible for us to construct an India-A and an India-B as follows (each with 16 players in them):
India-A
Virender Sehwag
Shikar Dhawan
Dinesh Mongia
Mohammed Kaif
S. Badrinath
Suresh Raina
Parthiv Patel
Piyush Chawla
Ajit Agarkar / V Yo Mahesh

The one other player that perhaps could be added is Gagan Khoda. But that would be at the exepense of one of the lefties — perhaps Abdulla…

Shahbaaz Nadeem is a SLA bowler, not a pacer.

No way! Abdullah has a realistic chance to represent India whereas Gagan Khoda can only dream of doing so.

And you put Harbhajan Singh , Irfan, Munaf and Rohit in India B? Any reason for that?
And you didn’t say who are the captains of these sides in your opinion?

Punit Bisht a better player than Rohit Sharma?
And where is Ambati Rayadu?
Homer // 7 July 2007 at 4:28 am |
or Laxmipathy Balaji?

Chandan, I have made the mod re: Shahbaz Nadeem. The allocation of players in teams does not have a clear rationale. However, I thought it would be a good idea to pit like against like: Sehwag-Uthappa, Harbhajan-Chawla Agarkar-Munaf, Kaif-Rohit, Badrinath-Tiwary, Parthiv-Puneet, etc…
Homer, Bisht is a wicketkeeper. Raydu and Balaji seem to have gone off the boil a bit in recent years. Balaji hasn’t even commenced playing full-time for TN.

No Sridharan Sriram? C’mon guys, that guys deserves to play in atleast India-A if not higher…
Chandan // 7 July 2007 at 4:06 pm |
I don’t agree Prabhu. Sriram will not be considered for India again. And the purpose of A tour is to find replacements for every position.
What would you gain by grooming a player who you know will not be considered as a replacement for any position?
Mohan,
What about the captains?
Say Kaif is India A’s captain but who’d lead India B?

Chandan
Good point regarding captaincy. I hadn’t thought through that clearly enough.
I’d exchange Pujara for Kaif and get Sehwag to captain ‘A’ and Kaif to captain ‘B’.
Seems like a good move?
