As an Aussie, some of the selections baffle me, especially Viswanath, & perhaps Azharuddin. Dravid's omission is ridiculous!

I followed Vissy's career from afar, ever since his test debut against Australia in 1969-70. I saw him in Australia in 1977-78 & 1980-81.

He was a wonderful, gutsy batsman, but with a batting average just under 42, he was below the "very best".

I can understand Gupte's selection because Garry Sobers said he was the finest spinner he ever faced.

I would also swap captain & vice-captain.

Despite being an outsider, my alltime Indian 1st XI would be: Gavaskar(vc), Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Hazare(c), V.Mankad, Kapil Dev, Kirmani(k), Srinath, Prasanna, Gupte.

I would keep Prasanna ahead of Bedi because that gives India 3 different spinners - a leggie (Gupte), an offie (Prasanna) & a left-armer (Mankad).

Kapil Dev & Srinath to open the bowling, with Hazare 1st change.

My all-time Indian 2nd XI: Merchant(c), Vengsarkar, Modi, Azharuddin, Viswanath, L.Amarnath(vc), Engineer(k), Aamar Singh, Bedi, Nissar, Chandrasekhar.

Both XIs run deep in batting depth. In the 2nd XI, Aamar Singh & Nissar to open the bowling, Amarnath 1st change followed by spinners Bedi & Chandra.

Rounding out an all-time 25 would be Manjrekar, Kumble & Umrigar.

Dream team? Does that mean that the panel was asleep when they came up with this team?? (Sure looks like it)

The panel should try and pick an "all time" team when they are awake.

Along the lines of investigation into Bob Woolmer's death, ther should be an investigation into the selection of Azharuddin by the Panel of Prasanna, Raja Balan and PTI Editors and their connection--if any ---to Azharuddin!!

Indians have this urge or LARGE intestinal fortitude to do one better tha n the West Indies Board giving the Captaincy of ODIs to Ganga even though Gayle was nominated by the selection Panel---even though Ganga didn't even make the team!!!!

Sorry Mohan--Vengsarkar is not in the team

It looks like , the dream team is also without a Coach--and a Manager

How about Nari Contractor for Coach , Ramakant Desai for bowling Coach, Eknath Solkar for Fielding Coach, Farook Engineer for Wicket Keeping Coach, Vinod Kambli for Batting Coach ( and in charge of Players' jewellery) and Sharad Power for Manager

Is there a fine invisible thread running through this nominations?
