I am puzzled why Gambhir was selected ? giving him a second chance ? Vengsarkar is not able to see what others can see ??

Ganguly was lucky to survive longer than the first over, when South Africa’s captain Jacques Kallis fluffed a dolly at second slip, but he wasn’t allowed to get away with one airy drive too many. His expansive waft off Nel’s second delivery, when he was probably expecting a short one, was to cost him – he had taken an early backward step and fell victim to driving away from his body.

Gambhir’s dismissal was similar – driving away from the body and only managing a thick edge – and Kallis didn’t mess it up this time, taking it clean at second slip.
