I am not a huge Sourav Ganguly (Dada) fan. I liked him a lot but the episode in Zimbabwe and his spat with Greg Chappell left a sour taste. I thought he behaved childishly and deserved to be dropped. But I still could not understand why he was not persisted with in the ODI squad. I think Dada is one of the finest ODI batsmen of the last decade. There was one particular year when he scored almost 10 ODI hundreds.
Now he is back. He is chastened. He is determined. And he is hungry. Guys watch
out, he is dangerous!
The first example of this was that fantastic catch he took in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka off Jayasuriya. He just ran back, dived and held on, took the catch, and pumped both hands in a show of triumph! My mind went back to that catch he took of Mark Waugh in that Mumbai Test against Australia! And then the 3rd ODI he was fielding in the boundary, he was running about, picking up and throwing with vigour.
And he bowled superbly in Vizag. His figures were 6-0-29-1 with the crucial wicket of the dangerous looking Tilakaratne Dilshan. On the slower wickets in the Carribean if he can get anything close to the above figures India will be more than happy.
The important thing is he is keen and willing and he will be a very very important cog in the wheel of this team!
GO DADA! We are with you!
Sanjay
