Racism and boorish behavior is ingrained in the Australian society (reference Sydney riots). The White Australians behave like this whenever they are threatened. They can blame these riots on the behavior of Middle Eastern community but it’s their (white Australians) inability and unwillingness to integrate the Middle Eastern community in their society.

Anyway, the Aussie cricket people are still lingering to their old colonial mentality while they fail to notice the world around them is changing. This guy John is a perfect example.

The article doesn’t question Australia’s superiority on the field. In fact, Mohan does acknowledge it -

“I do admire the Australian cricket team for their ability to play good, strong, hard, committed cricket. They are the best cricket team in the world today”

I think they will be a much liked team if they could change their attitude a little bit.

(Having said that the Aussies tried that in the Ashes tour played in England and we all know what happened then.)

So maybe over the years the beleif has sunk in that sledging, intensity and performance are related and that it works. Sure it has worked! I live in Australia and still amazed as why the Australian Cricketers behave that way even after so many years of dominance. It is almost Lleyton type sportsman ship. I am not sure why it this way. I can understand if these sportspersons were coming out of China or Russia where they are machined to perform. I guess it must be coming from some kind of pressure or caoching where u are made to hunt in packs and discard ur individual personality or belief. I agree that they do win but the heroics does not come out either from the body language or from the glossy story lines. They have the best players but still no one that u want to emulate (Shane warne coud be an exception). It could be that this is the future of this sport and there is a huge gap in the thinking of Australian tema and old time lovers of this game. Anyway the best and the most fair team win.
