Twenty twenty is very practical. I have always been of the view that if they have to play for five days, let it be a best of five one day games or twenty twenty. Its a good leverage- more for less time if not money.

Cricketers are playing too much these days. Quality could suffer.

The model I’ve proposed is not the silver bullet that is going to fix the current problems in Indian domestic cricket.

The Ranji trophy includes more than 30 teams to cover the 1 billion plus population, but having more teams dilutes the talent. Reducing the number of teams will improve the quality of teams – there is no doubt about that.

But as these are two separate models, what I’ve proposed should complement whatever changes the Ranji format undergoes…

However, I feel that the real improvements to Indian cricket will come when the Ranji format is improved. There are far too many teams in the comp and, as a result, the best players become way more better than they probably are. It is easy to boost ones average by scoring 322 runs against Manipur on a consistent basis. Indian cricket is littered with examples like M.S.K.Prasad, Vijay Bharadwaj, Sujith Somashekar, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, Sanjay Bangar, Deep DropGupta, Tinu Yohanan, et al.
